THE NATIONAL INSURANCE CLAIMS SOCIETY ANNUAL REPORT

Distinguished EXCO Members, Fellow Members of Insurance Companies,
Members of the Secretariat, Ladies & Gentlemen.

A great afternoon and welcome to our 26th Annual General Meeting of the National Insurance Claims Society (NICS) for the Term 2024/25. The last EXCO meeting was held on 22 January 2025, ending the 2024/25 Term.

Before we usher in the new Term 2025/26, let’s flashback at some events and programs that the Society had offered and organized for the Members throughout the outgoing term.

Membership

2024/25 remarked the 26 th anniversary of this Society. We are pleased to announce
that presently the Society has 21 Member companies, comprising of:

The Society will continue its efforts to promote and welcome more Members from the industry. It will also provide networking opportunities for wider knowledge-sharing and could also accelerate information exchange within the insurance fraternity.

Executive Committee

Executive Committee Members are the driving force of the Society, involving the volunteers from Claims professionals who are nominated by the Member companies.

There are focused main Sub-Committees formed to carry out the Society’s activities, namely:

Education & Trainings

We believe that well-educated claims professionals are best able to represent their industry’s interests by providing excellent claims services professionally to the organization and customers.

Our Educational seminars were organized on a wide range of market informative, emerging new trends, medical, practical and technical claims-related topics presented by experts in their respective fields.

We are pleased that NICS has successfully organized 7 Seminars as follows:

Topic on: Medical Assistance in Travel Insurance and Corporate Travel

The Objectives:

  • Describe the Types of Medical Transfers.
  • Enumerate Methods of Medical Transfers.
  • Analyse the choice of Methods of Medical Transfer.
  • Improve your current knowledge on Medical Transfer Medicine.
  • Control and Sustain the drive to continue to operatively understand Medical Transfers.

Topic on: Electric Vehicle Hazard & Repair

The Objectives:

  • Identify Hazard: Understanding the specific hazards associated with Electric Vehicles including electrical shock, battery-related risks and potential fire hazards.
  • Safety Protocols: Learn and implement safety protocols to protect yourself and others when working on Electric Vehicles.
  • Handling High-Voltage Systems: Gain knowledge on safely handling High-Voltage Systems and components in Electric Vehicles.
  • Emergency Response: Equip yourself with the skills to respond effectively to emergencies involving Electric Vehicles.
  • Repair Techniques: Learn proper repair techniques that ensure safety and compliance with industry standards.

Topic on: Public Liability Coverage and Claims Processing

The Objectives:

  • This Talk provides an overview of a Public Liability Policy’s scope of cover and some common exclusions together with a discussion of selected case studies.

Topic on: Metabolic Syndrome Diseases and How the Charges Can Be Streamlined

The Objectives:

  • Metabolic Syndrome Diseases are responsible for 75% of illnesses and complications requiring hospitalization, other than infectious diseases and trauma. Reverse Diabetes & Hypertension, Inflammation, Arthritis, Lose Weight and Remain Slim.

Topic on: Legal Talk on Nomination Under the Financial Services Act 2013

The Objectives:

  • In-depth discussion on the nomination process under the FSA.

Topic on: Mastering Forensic Investigation: Evidence Collection, Fore Prevention & Risk Improvement

The Objectives:

  • Discussion on both the Investigation Process and the Difficulties/Challenges
  • encountered in Forensic Motor Vehicles.
  • The Preparation for Court testimony.
  • Understanding Fire Tetrahedron.
  • How to Mitigate each possible cause of Fire.
  • Discussion on Failure and on the Possible causes of Failure
  • How to Mitigate each Possible cause of Failure. 

Topic on: Machinery Breakdown & Loss of Profit Claims

The Objectives: To development a good understanding of how the Machinery Breakdown Policy works and how to Detect and Tackle Machinery Insurance Fraud.

It was a great success that about 286 participants successfully attended our Seminars throughout this term.

To this effect, we commend the Education & Training Sub-Committee for being very active and effective by delivering a meaningful range of related topics for the benefit of its members.

Best Practices & Anti-Fraud

We are able to pool claims professionals via the Claims Managers’ Meet to gain and share their expertise, experiences and technical know-how for the betterment of the industry in various related areas.

We have successfully organized two (2) Claims Managers Meet sessions attended by 67 persons.

The first session was held in June 2024. The topic was on “Sharing Session with Ombudsman of Financial Service” by Mr V G Nehrman, Ms Malini Silvaraju and Ms Charmayne Lam, OFS.

The Introduction and Objectives were: Sharing of OFS dispute Trends/Case outcomes and our observations and insights based on the cases handled- Positive feedback and areas for improvements.

Feedback and expectations exchange between OFS and NICS members.

Our 2nd session Topic was on “Introduction to the Road Transport Act 1987 and Road Traffic Rules” by Mr Goh Soon Cheng, ACE Confidential Sdn Bhd.

The Introduction and Objectives were:
To help the Claims Personnel to better understand the Law and determine the party responsible in the accident.

A special appreciation to the Best Practices & Anti-Fraud Sub-Committee for making these sessions successful.

Appreciation

On behalf of NICS, I take this opportunity to record great appreciation to our esteemed Member companies for their most valuable support and contributions made during the year.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the contributions and services volunteered by all the EXCO members who have played their roles effectively and untiringly in delivering the numerous activities for this term.

Our gratitude also always goes to Ms. Nancy and Ms. Neethya from the Secretariat, who has relentlessly pursued the Society’s objectives together with us.

We appreciate your precious time and attention.

May the Society continues to serve the Insurance Industry in upholding insurance principles, combating Fraud, sharing technical knowledges and sharing best Claims practices.
